From Courtyard to Museum

An exhibition of Mithila paintings is being held from May 09 to June 08, 2026 in the multipurpose auditorium of Bihar Museum, courtesy Manisha Jha, National Award winner in Mithila painting. The title of this exhibition is - 'From Courtyard to Museum: A Journey of Sixty Years'. In this exhibition, the chronological history of sixty years of Mithila painting is going to be presented thematically and systematically. In this exhibition, paintings of a total of 56 artists including Padmashree artists of Mithila art field are being displayed.

Quiet Stories

An exhibition of 54 paintings by senior Indian artist Surjit Akre is being organised in Patna Museum. Her decades of practice have produced a body of work rooted in empathy, social conscience and close observation of the world around her. Her works are held in significant public and private collections worldwide. Born in Taran Taran, Punjab, Surjit Akre is the first Indian artist to earn a post-graduate degree in Easel Painting from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. Over a career of more than forty-five years, she has held over 85 solo exhibitions across India, Russia, the United States, and Canada. She is a recipient of the Pushkin Medal, awarded by the President of the Russian Federation, among many other honours.

Tikuli Art Exhibition

The landmark exhibition titled 'Hidden Treasures of Tikuli Art' by Bihar Museum, Patna was inaugurated by Shri Arun Shankar Prasad, Honorable Minister of Art and Culture, Bihar, on April 5, 2026 at 4:00 pm in the Multipurpose Auditorium of Bihar Museum. Shri Pranav Kumar, Secretary, Department of Art and Culture, Bihar was presented as the Guest of Honour, while Shri Anjani Kumar Singh, Director General, Bihar Museum presided over the function. Perhaps for the first time in the country, a total of 33 artists, including Padma Shri awardee Shri Ashok Kumar Vishwas, displayed their 66 artworks collectively. The 800-year-old Tikuli painting is believed to have originated in Patna.

Tikuli Art Workshop

A Tikuli painting workshop was held at the Bihar Museum from March 28th to April 3rd. In this six-day event, a total of 33 accomplished Tikuli artists from Bihar painted their works on wood or canvas. Tikuli art, which started more than 800 years ago in Patna, Bihar, is a modified form of the bindi (tikuli) worn by women on their foreheads.

Seminar on Timeless on Bronze

The seminar covered two sessions: first, about contemporary bronze practices, and second, how artists today engage with the material in new ways. Participants registered themselves to attend this seminar. Contributing artists of the seminar include Artist Sudarshan Shetty, Artist Riyas Komu, Padma Shri Rajendra Tiku, Ceramic Artist Padma Shri Brahmadeo Ram Pandit, Artist Abhay Pandit, Art Director Sunil Mahadik and renowned Indian art critic Dr. Rajesh Kumar Vyas, who talked about their works in bronze.

Bodhgaya Global Dialogues 2026

Deshkal society organised the 8th edition of the Bodhgaya Global Dialogues programme in collaboration with the Bihar Museum, Patna. This programme focused on understanding and exploring different dimensions associated with Buddhist heritage, culture, and sustainability. It sought to understand the conceptual and operative domain of heritage, tangible and intangible, and a proliferation of spaces and spheres associated with it.

Swayamsiddha (Painting) and Manke (Beads) Exhibition

Painting Exhibition by Contemporary Women Artists To mark the International Women's Day, the Mahila Jagran and Bal Kalyan Sansthan, Patna, in collaboration with the Bihar Museum, organised an exhibition of works by contemporary women at the Patna Museum. In this exhibition, total 19 contemporary women artists from all over the state displayed their works. Different types of beads. "Beads from a Necklace" was an exhibition based on the Patna Museum's collection of beads. The exhibition continued from March 8th to March 31,2026. This exhibition was divided into five sections: 1. Everyday Beads, 2. Decorative Beads, 3. Ceremonial Beads, 4. Spiritual Beads, and 5. Amulets. The ancient Indus Valley Civilization was a prime example.

Thinking Nalanda

In collaboration with the Bihar Museum, CSMVS Mumbai presented "Thinking Nalanda" on 10th March 2026. Curated by renowned art historian Dr. Alka Pande, this one-day symposium explored Nalanda’s global intellectual legacy. Part of the CSMVS Metro Outreach Programme, it complemented the ongoing exhibition, "Networks of the Past," bridging ancient knowledge with contemporary relevance.

Craft Village Jitwarpur

Craft Village Jitwarpur

Bihar’s first Shilpgram was inaugurated on 20 February 2026 in Jitwarpur, Madhubani, to promote Mithila art and empower local artisans. Supported by the Ministry of Textiles and Bihar Museum, the ₹9.02 crore initiative is being implemented by BSRDC under the guidance of the Bihar Museum leadership.

Timeless in Bronze

This exhibition was organized by the Bihar Museum, Patna, in collaboration with the Shilpanjali Art Foundation, Jaipur. The exhibition featured bronze works by 34 sculptors, including the Caster and Sculptor, Rajkumar Pandit, one artist from Belgium, and one from Japan. On the second day of the exhibition, a seminar on the same topic was held in the Orientation Hall of the Bihar Museum.
