An exhibition of 54 paintings by senior Indian artist Surjit Akre is going to be organised in Patna Museum. Her decades of practice have produced a body of work rooted in empathy, social conscience and close observation of the world around her. Her works are held in significant public and private collections worldwide. Born in Taran Taran, Punjab, Surjit Akre is the first Indian artist to earn a post-graduate degree in Easel Painting from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. Over a career of more than forty-five years, she has held over 85 solo exhibitions across India, Russia, the United States, and Canada. She is a recipient of the Pushkin Medal, awarded by the President of the Russian Federation, among many other honours.
