Vibhasa Ragini

Vibhasa ragini, commonly depicted by a man, is aiming the arrow at the bird to stop it from crowing at dawn. This particular painting captures a tender romantic moment set against the backdrop of a palace terrace beneath a star-studded night sky. Seated on a richly adorned mattress with embroidered bolsters and a patterned carpet, a royal couple shares an intimate exchange. The male figure, dressed in regal attire with a jeweled turban, gazes affectionately at his companion, who is draped in a delicate red veil and elegant garments, embodying grace and devotion. The serene setting is enhanced by the silhouettes of trees in the background and the presence of a bird—possibly rooster—perched quietly on the terrace wall. The man is triggering his bow and arrow at the rooster and the female is trying to restrain him from shooting the rooster.A lone brass lamp stand adds to the tranquil ambiance. This folio most likely belonged to an album of Ragamala or "Garland of Melodies" folios.
