Lord Buddha and Mahabodhi Temple

Kapildev Prasad's artwork, "Lord Buddha and Mahabodhi Temple," is the traditional Bawaan Buti weaving craft, which have largely been manufactured in Baswan Bigha village of Nalanda District, Bihar. This craft is named after the fifty-two motifs, or bawan buti, woven into the fabric, which is made using the vertical warps of the loom. These silk or cotton fabrics, often used for garments and sarees, originate in Nalanda, a significant Buddhist centre since the fifth century.

In this artwork, Kapildev Prasad uses Bunkari weaving techniques to depict Lord Buddha and the Mahabodhi Temple, a renowned Buddhist pilgrimage site in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The detailed weaving captures Buddha’s serene presence and the architectural beauty of the temple.
