Adi Shakti / Mother Goddess When early humans were navigating life on Earth, they were likely frightened by the strange phenomena of nature. Life must have been very challenging for them. Worried and scared, early humans tried to make sense of these events by imagining a divine force – Adi Shakti or the Mother Goddess – who they believed was responsible for the creation of the universe.
Using their imagination, they created symbolic idols of Adi Shakti or the Mother Goddess and infused them with human emotions. These idols played a significant role in making life easier and more understandable. Archaeological excavations at Harappa and Mohenjo-daro have unearthed Mother Goddess figurines, confirming this belief. It is said that the Mother Goddess not only creates and sustains the universe but also destroys it when necessary.
